U.S. GLOBEC Georges Bank Data OGC Interface Directions and Tutorial

Welcome to the U.S. GLOBEC Georges Bank Data OGC Interface. Detailed instructions will be available soon. Until then, please review the tutorial below.

Tutorial

The following tutorial will present time-series graphs of density vs. pressure from three cruises.
  1. Open the main U.S. GLOBEC Georges Bank Data OGC Interface website.
Your brower must be Javascript and frames enabled.

  2. Select the cruises that are in the EN300 range. Do that by using the mouse and a combination of SHIFT, CONTROL, and or the CLOVER keys.

  3. Click the button.

  4. At this point, the map will update, and the selected tracks will be displayed. Now we want to get more detailed information. To do that, click the Get Info button that is to the right of the map under the Map Controls section.

  5. The Get Info Results selection below the map will spring to life. It contains all the information for the cruises that we selected that are also visibile in the current map. Notice that green links represent data types that have more information available. In our case, we want to see more details about the following cruises: EN307, EN330, and EN331. Specifically, the CTD data type.

Click on each green link CTD underneath each of our target cruise id's, and then click on map-it. Here is an example of how to get to cruise EN330's CTD data.

Remember, you will do this three times, one for each cruise.

  6. Next, two things will happen: (1) Three new checkboxes will show up under a new Map-it Observations heading, and (2) dots will appear on the map!

You can check and uncheck each box to show and hide each cruise's point observations. The colors of the dots are randomly unique to help distinguish one cruise from another. They are of no real data consequence.

  7. Mouseover any new point observation dot to see what data types are available. For this example we will choose the top-most, left dot (which is orange in this case).

  8. Finally, we see a graph! You could also have clicked on the get-it link which would have shown you the actual point values.

  9. Repeat the process two more times so that you have three time-series density vs. pressure graphs in three separate windows.

Congratulations! You have successfully drilled into the GLOBEC JGOFS dataset. We hope you will visit often.
